ACT Presents...Quilters: The Musical

Quilters: The Musical is now showing at Artists Collaborative Theatre in Elkhorn City under the executive direction of Stephanie Richards, the artistic direction of Lauren Brooke Stewart, and musical direction of Emily Addis and Ashley Ratliff.
Written by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek with music and lyrics by Barbara Damashek, Quilters: The Musical is a musical patchwork of American history.  It tells the story of a pioneer woman and her daughters as they stitch together the interrelated stories of dozens of women into a colorful masterpiece that captures the sweep and beauty, the terror and joy, the harsh challenges and abiding rewards of frontier life.
Through music, dance, and drama, each “quilt block” depicts the lot of the women of the westward expansion: girlhood, marriage, childbirth, spinsterhood, natural disasters, illness, and death.  But, with this, there is also love, warmth, humor, and the moving spectacle of simple human dignity in the face of adversity.  In the end, these story blocks combine to make one “legacy quilt” which the characters raise high in celebration of pioneer womanhood.
Don’t miss your chance to see Quilters: The Musical!  Performances will take place at ACT in Elkhorn City (207 N. Patty Loveless Drive) through October 27.  Show times are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 3:00 pm.  There is no show Saturday, October 19.
Tickets are $9 each and available at the door, by calling (606) 754-4228, or online at www.act4.org.
